Christmas Greetings

It is the week before Christmas and everything is a buzz with parties here and there.  Salvation Army Kettles to staff, Christmas trees to sell and construction work to finish before it gets any colder.  Our Division is obviously busy in many different ways.  It shows the diversity of the clubs.

All the boards have been working hard.  Members have been working hard too as we have been inducting new members.  If your club has not inducted a new member this quarter, plan on doing so by March.

Talking of members, it was a thrill to present the “Legion of Honour” pin to Bill Hutchinson, a Charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Leamington to mark 60 years of service to his community, a truly inspiring accomplishment.  I presented the pin to Bill at a surprise celebration on November 17.  Family and friends from several clubs in the Division surprised him.  We wish Bill continued good health.

LG Blog spot #1 - Oct. 20, 2016

Hello Fellow Kiwanians!

 

It is a new year for Kiwanis and the fun year has begun. I am grateful for all the officers and directors who agreed to stand for election and were elected.  Remember to make sure to have fun during the year and thank all who volunteer at the club activities.  Also be sure to join in the fellowship of your club.

I have been to every club in the division and installed the officers and directors for this year.  It was a pleasure to visit each and every club and meet everyone.  There was palpable excitement as the clubs talk about and plan to move the clubs forward.

Thank you for the warm welcome extended to my wife Daphne and myself.

As you know the Kiwanis I-Plan is the focus for this year and I hope that each club can think about where the club will be in 5 years time.  With a goal in mind we can plan the way to get there.  Please take a look at the Club Planning Tool with that in mind.  I sent that to all clubs earlier for your consideration.  I know some clubs have already started identifying where they want to be in 2021.  I am always available to come and help if you so wish.

Along with the strategic plan we need to identify the membership, or Inspiration chair, and the PR, or Image chair for each club.  I am hoping they will be able to communicate regularly by using electronic means.  3 of us tested an application called “JoinMe” and it worked well once we learned the tricks.

All this work is to ensure we are there for the Kids whenever they need us.

Division 3 LG Holds his first DCM

Nothing like starting off the new Kiwanis administrative year by having your very first Divisional Council meeting on the same day you take office!   Members from the 7 clubs within Division 3 joined together at the Lochiel Kiwanis Community Centre in Sarnia, Ontario for the first of LG David Murray's meetings scheduled over this next year.  It was not the greatest day for driving from Windsor, Leamington Forest or Chatham but they made the trek and arrived.  At least it wasn't snowing!! 
This was a time for reflection for PLG Cathy Telfer as she remarked on highlights from her past 2 years as our LG.  It has been a learning experience and one that she will cherish forever.  As per the custom within our division, the incoming LG gives a token of appreciation to the outgoing LG for all their hard work during their years of leadership.  The group, including LG David is not quite sure what the significance of a multi-head screwdriver has to do with Kiwanis work but I will take a stab at it.  Cathy was always flexible, helping to fix things that came her way.  She tried many different venues hence, the many headed screwdriver.  A tool that can be adapted for several functions.  This was Cathy in her quiet, reserved, refined way.  Always at the read to help out when asked.  As LG David said, he has big shoes to fill!  Not really, size 8 I think!

As the morning progressed, the new LG was inducted, Past Gov. Allen Ure made his remarks and thanked Trustee Sheila Donald for her support over the past year.  He presented her with a special pin that was created for the 100th anniversary of Kiwanis in Canada by a US company.  Gov. Allen also presented PLG Cathy with an identical pin for all her hard work, feedback and guidance over the last year.

LG David was pleased at the support that he is receiving from the members of the Sarnia-Lambton Golden K and the members of the other clubs within the division.  A great morning well spent.
Thank you PLG Cathy for all your hard work.  LG David is hitting the ground running as he begins his rounds to the clubs for Officer Inductions over the next few weeks.  Good Luck and safe journeys.

Kiwanis One Day Activities

April 2nd was labelled as Kiwanis One Day but here in the north.....................
It was cold..................very cold!!!  But Kiwanians still show up as promised and do the job requested!
On Saturday, April 16th a group of dedicated Kiwanis members from the Sarnia-Lambton Golden K Kiwanis
club in Sarnia, Ontario spent the morning helping with yard clean up at the London Road Public School.
This project was started in 2015 and was extremely well received not only by the students and teachers at the school but the local neighbourhood as well.  This year, neighbours got together and provided the necessary "fuel" to keep the workers working!  Coffee and goodies were all that we needed!
