Division 3 Newsletter #3 - January 2015

100th Day
Thousands of people around the world know that 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of Kiwanis but not many know that January 8th marks the 100th day of this year's service to children in our communities.  In 100 days as Kiwanians, we have served as leaders, officers and committee members.  We have already completed dozens of projects and many hours of service.  We have registered hundreds of students in our music festivals, helped families in need and celebrated special occasions within our clubs.

100 Families in 100 Days of Our 100th Year
I hope you have read about the ELIMINATE plan to save 100 families with your donation of $200.  As we move towards the dateline for our global project, this unique idea provides an opportunity for those who have not yet contributed and also for those Zellers to further commit to making a difference in the lives of mothers and babies.

Club Growth
What a wonderful fall this has been for club growth!  In the first 100 days of my term as LG, I had the privilege of inducting a total of 15 new members.  What better way to show that you love your club than to share it - and we are certainly sharing the love with our new members.  Congratulations to Forest, Chatham-Kent, Sarnia-Lambton Golden K, Seaway and Windsor Clubs for sharing their love of Kiwanis with new friends.

Service Leadership Programs
How exciting to welcome a new SLP into the Kiwanis Family.  Sponsored by The Seaway Club of Sarnia, a new Key Club at Northern Secondary School will be chartered at a special evening on January 16.  This brings our Division total to 4 Key Clubs - 3 in Sarnia and 1 in Forest.  Sounds like a challenge to the other clubs to sponsor a Key Club and to enjoy the benefits of working with our young leaders as they develop a love for service.

Membership Satisfaction Survey
Completion of a Membership Satisfaction survey has been very helpful to President George Service in planning a year of distinction in the Chatham-Kent Club.  If you want to know more about how you could use this in your club, plan to come to the April 11 Caucus Meeting.  If you don't want to wait and are interested in doing one this quarter, contact George directly at: georgeservice27@gmail.com.

Awards and Incentives
The December reports are just about done and I will be compiling the summary for the LG Award for the First Quarter of the year. Also - a reminder that one club in each division will receive $750 to spend on two convention registrations for the 2016 convention in Hamilton Ontario.

EC&C Convention in Aruba - May 20-24
Have you finalized your plans to attend the convention on this wonderful island in the Caribbean?  The website is now live and I see that they have built time for a caucus meeting into the schedule.  Hope to see you there.

KI Convention in Indianapolis - June 24-27
Are you in?  How can you not want to see first-hand how Kiwanis celebrates such a momentous anniversary.  Remember to contact Kiwanis Club of Ridgetown secretary Alan Bloomfield: alanbloomfield6@gmail.com  to see if there is still room on the bus to save yourself the bother of driving to Indianapolis but still get there in plenty of time to enjoy the 100th anniversary celebration.

Caucus Meeting - January 17
This will be a working meeting where attendees will have an opportunity to share what is happening in each club, to talk about what they love about their club and to work together to brainstorm positive next steps for the next quarter.  Led by our very capable Club Counsellors - Bud Orr, Bill Blake and David Murray, participants will demonstrate "The Formula" at work.  It is hoped that each club will have a minimum of 3 people attending to contribute to meaningful discussion.

Crepe Dinner - March 18 in Chatham
For the third year, the Kiwanis Club of Chatham-Kent is organizing a make-your own crepe dinner as a fundraiser for Eliminate.  Tickets will be available from any club member but they sell out very quickly so mark your calendar for Sprucedale United Church in Chatham on March 18.

If you would like more information on any of these items, or have any other questions, please let me know.  Please let me know of any special celebrations or speakers and I will be in touch with you soon so we can plan my next visit to your club.

Yours in Kiwanis Service ~

Cathy Telfer, 2014-2015 Lieutenant Governor
