Kudos
A two-part congratulations goes out to Ward Burr from the Kiwanis Club
of Forest. On March 14, Past
International President Dr John Button was in Forest along with a number of
other Kiwanians from Sarnia Lambton
Golden K and Chatham-Kent to
recognize Ward with a Mel Osborne Award.
This fellowship consists of Kiwanians and others who have contributed to
the growth and work of Kiwanis. Their service and dedication is remembered and
honoured by their being named by the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada to this prestigious
society. The Foundation sends a special scroll honouring their contribution and
the uniquely designed medallion, as you can see in the attached photo.
Clubs may apply for a Mel Osborne Fellowship for any member who
exemplifies the spirit of Kiwanis for a donation of $750. They can also apply for any non Kiwanis
member in their community for a donation of $350. This Community Leader Award is
available to any Club in Canada once each year.
To find out more, refer to the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada website or
email: donations@kfcdn.org
Ward also
deserves a huge pat on the back for submitting an article on the Kineto Theatre
to the "Our Canada"
magazine, a Publication of Reader's
Digest Magazines Canada. In the Cause
for Applause segment, the title reads: Generosity in Motion
- A community pitches in to keep its historic movie theatre alive by Ward Burr,
Forest, Ont. The issue, complete with
photos of the theatre is in the April/May edition. What a great recognition for Ward and the
Kiwanis Club of Forest which keeps this theatre open year-round to serve the
cinema-loving crowd in their community.
Congratulations
The new LG for Key Club Division 2, 2016-2017 has been elected and we
are pleased to congratulate Addie Bicum from SCITS Key Club in Sarnia. Her
personal email is addiebicum@gmail.com or you can
reach her through the email shared with current LG Shubhika Mahakul at lgdivision2@keyclub.ca. It is wonderful to see that the leadership of
our Key Club members is recognized at the District level.
Celebrating 100 Years of
Kiwanis in Canada
Kiwanis Club of
Chatham-Kent celebrated 100 years by donating 100 books to children in the Chatham
community. In partnership with the
Public Library, children were invited to select from a vast array of quality
literature at their interest level. All
100 books were given away in just over 4 hours to very excited children and
their grateful families. This
partnership will continue with Session 2 of "Reading Buddies" where
Kiwanis members are matched for a 6 week series to share their love of
literature with children.
